Brand Review | Scientific Organic Beauty with Antipodes Skincare
Updated: Aug 12, 2019
Antipodes Skincare is one of the very few brands that I can say with confidence, I've enjoyed every product I've tried! I first discovered Antipodes back in 2016 and was intrigued by everything the brand stands for. Elizabeth Barbalich who founded Antipodes had a desire to create an innovative beauty brand that was not only made of premium-quality Organic ingredients, but was also scientifically validated. All of Antipodes ingredients are sustainably sourced locally from their Native Country of New Zealand, and all packaging is sustainable and recyclable, meaning there is zero waste. Antipodes really pride themselves on being an Eco-conscious, premium quality brand for the everyday woman who doesn’t want to have to overthink her daily routine.
I love how transparent they are on their Instagram account, highlighting the benefits of the ingredients within their products, and even showing us how each product can be used, and how they are made (in house btw). I love that they allow the science behind the products to speak for themselves, rather than over marketing a specific ingredient in a small quantity to reap a bigger profit margin. It makes me respect the brand so much more. It's an added bonus that they are a Cruelty-Free brand and most of their products are vegetarian.
Now lets talk about the products i have tried in their line....
Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask - £24.99 for 75ml
Starting off with Antipodes' most cult award-winning product the Aura Manuka Honey Mask. A mask that promises to bring peace and balance to your aura. This antioxidant-rich mask helps to replenish, soothe and hydrate all at the same time. With a simplistic yet effective ingredients list of Active Manuka Honey, Ruby Red Pohutukawa, Vinanza Grape and Glycerin. The mask helps to soothe, healing blemishes and skin irritations with its antibacterial properties. While it's humectant properties leave the skin nourished, I actually reach for this mask whenever i feel that my skin feels compromised and needs a little TLC. It's also great for spot treating any of those painful cystic blemishes that just don't want to surface. The scent is heavenly made up of Vanilla pod and Mandarin. I've used about 4 tubes over the years and just like the Caudalie Instant Detox Mask, there will always be one in my stash.
Directions: Smooth over the face and neck twice a week or when skin calls. Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.
Ingredients: Aqua (water), Leptospermum scoparium mel (manuka) honey Active 20+, Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, stearic acid, glycerol stearate, gluconolactone, sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate, Vitis vinifera (Vinanza Grape® grape seed) extract, Daucus carota sativa (carrot) oil, Metrosideros excelsa (pohutukawa flower) extract, tocopherol (Vitamin E), essential oil fragrances of vanilla & mandarin: coumarin†, d-Limonene†, linalool†. † Component of essential oil
Antipodes Reincarnation Pure Facial Polish & Exfoliator - £21.99 for 75ml
This gentle physical exfoliator uses jojoba beads to very gently buff away the top layer of skin. Where most exfoliators feel a little abrasive and leave the skin feeling compromised, this leaves the skin feeling incredibly nourished and soothed. The jojoba beads are minuscule, they can barely been seen, as you can see in the swatch below. Kaolin helps to remove impurities from pores. Avocado oil and marigold bloom oil work together in perfect harmony to help nourish the skin, and Carrot Seed Extract helps to revitalize the skins surface, leaving you with a smoother, refreshed complexion. This exfoliator is so finely milled and gentle, you could use it daily. I really enjoy using this on my sunday skincare pamper days, when I am not using a chemical exfoliant and want my skin to be extra nourished. Again just like the Aura mask it has a beautiful orange aroma.
Directions: Gently blend into damp skin whenever your skin calls for a new life. Rinse well with warm water.
Ingredients: Aqua (water), Kaolin, Prunus armeniaca (apricot oil), Buxus chinensis (hydronated jojoba oil), glycerine (vegetable), Glycerol stearate, Cetearyl wheat straw Glycosides, Cetearyl alcohol, Titanium dioxide, Tocopherol acetate (Vitamin E), Persea gratissima (avocado oil), Calendula officinalis (calendula/marigold oil), Santalum album (sandalwood oil), Citrus sinensis (orange oil), Dipteryse odorata (tonka bean oil), Daucas carota sativus (carrot seed oil), Citrus grandis (grapefruit seed extract), Phenoxyethanol, Iodopropynyl butylcarbarmate.
Antipodes Grace Gentle Cream Cleanser - £24.99 for 120ml
The Antipodes Grace Gentle Cream Cleanser has been formulated to clear impurities and remove your makeup 'gracefully'. Despite having oily-combination skin, I love using cream cleansers because they feel so gentle on my skin, kind of like a mini treatment. Grace is a thick cream, which feels very luxurious on my skin. It features one of my favourite anti-inflammatory ingredients Calendula as well as Vinanza Oxifend (grape extract). Avocado oil and Jojoba oil help to add nutrients and leave the skin feeling really soothed. What I love the most about the Grace Cream Cleanser is that it always leaves my skin feeling ultra soft and nourished, whether my skin is perfectly happy or feeling a little sensitive or compromised. Those with dry, sensitive or or more mature skin will love this. A little really goes a long way too.
Directions: Apply the Cleanser in circular motions onto a dry face and neck, Enjoy massaging into mostly absorbed. Then rinse well with warm water.

Antipodes Halo Skin Brightening Facial Mud Mask - £26.99 for 75g
Pimples have met their match with the Halo skin-brightening mask. Straight away your greeted by the beautiful and fresh scent of Peonies. Note, that if you are sensitive to strong scents this might be a little overwhelming for you. New Zealand thermal mud adds much needed minerals, Kaolin helps to clean out pores, Vinanza Grape and Kiwi help to brighten the complexion and Peony Flower helps to soothe. Every time i use this mask my skin feels refreshed and revitalized. Like with most mud masks it dries down hard, so i like to remove gently with a warm washcloth. Skin is left clearer, with a reduction of sebum (oil) and brighter. Though all skin types could use this it would be most beneficial for those with normal, combination and oily, whop want to deal with congestion. Antipodes recommend using twice a week, I use as and when needed.
Directions: Apply a thick layer over cleansed skin twice a week or when skin calls. Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse off thoroughly with warm water.

Antipodes Apostle Skin-Brightening Serum - £44.99 for 30ml
Initially when I was first sent this product I didn’t have high hopes, because it was green beauty serum. Most I have tried haven't been as effective. So i was very pleasantly surprised when i started to notice a difference in my skin-tone after just 9 days. Apostle is a delightful, lightweight serum, that absorbs beautifully into the skin just like a glass of water. It's a unique burgundy-red color and smells delicious. Ingredients include Aloe Vera which helps to soothe and heal; Reishi Mushroom Extract acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps to promote healthy cell growth; Vinanza Performance Plus is a natural anti-agent that helps with melanin production and decrease trans-epidermal water loss, leaving the skin hydrated; Raspberry oil which not only a natural source of vitamin A and rich in fatty acids & omegas, and but it's also what gives this serum its beautiful color. This serum really helps to reduce dullness and skin texture, giving my skin a brighter healthy-glow. It also helps to reduce blemishes and make my skin look clear. I thoroughly enjoy applying this to my skin after Essence both morning and evening. I have just finished my second bottle and will be repurchasing a third.
Directions: Apply liberally to face, neck and decolletage day & night before your face oil and moisturiser.
Ingredients: Aqua, aloe vera juice extract, mamaku black fern leaf extract, gluconolactone, sodium benzoate, amigel (sclerotium gum), vitis vinifera (Oxifend grapeseed) extract, xanthan gum, vitis vinifera and actindia chinensis (Vinanza Performance Plus grapeseed and kiwifruit) extract, actinidia chinensis (Vinanza Kiwi) fruit pulp extract, rubus idaeus (raspberry) oil, gandoderma lucidum (Reishi mushroom) extract, Essential oil Fragrances of green apple and cardamon: benzyl alcohol*, cinnamal*, citral*, citronellol*, geraniol*. *Component of essential oil. Premium bioactive ingredients: Vinanza Performance Plus, Vinanza Oxifend and Waiwera Mineral Water.
Antipodes Rejoice Light Facial Day Cream - £28.99 for 60ml
The first thing you notice about this face cream is the delectably sweet vanilla scent, which stems from the Sweet Almond Oil and natural Vanilla extracts. Rejoice is the face cream in the range aimed at those with Normal-to-oily skin. The texture is still quite rich, so I wasn't expecting to like this too much. However though it takes a while to blend into the skin, once it absorbs my complexion is left looking mattified. It's like it holds my oils back, which makes it great for both makeup days and days I want to wear no makeup, but don't want to look oily. Manuka flower oil gives this cream antibacterial properties , while Shea Butter, Avocado Oil and Rosehip Oil help to nourish and hydrate. Because of the richness you only need a tiny amount, much less than you would from a regular day cream.
Directions: Delicately apply to your face, neck and cleavage at sunrise or whenever your skin needs hydration during the day.
Ingredients: Aqua (purified water), Lavender augustifolia distillate (lavender flower water)*, Xanthan gum, Butyrosperum parkii (shea butter), Rosa canina (rosehip oil)*, Persea gratissima (avocado oil)*, Macadamia ternifolia (macadamia seed oil)*, Cetearyl alcohol, Wheat straw glycosides, Tocopherol (vitamin e), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba seed oil)*, Citrus grandis (grapefruit seed extract), Naticide (fragrance), Leptospermum scoparium (manuka oil). *Certified organic ingredient.
Antipodes Immortal Face & Body Moisturiser SPF15 - £28.99 for 60ml
The one product I've tested that is completely scent free. The Immortal moisturiser has a natural physical sunscreen, which you can see by the light blue tint in the swatch below. Formulated with Vinanza Performance Plus which is a natural anti-agent and antioxidant combining extracts of Kiwi & Grape seeds. Raspberry Seed Oil provides essential Fatty Acids and Omegas, whilst also providing sun protection and hydration.
This moisturiser does take some time to blend into the skin, but once it does, it leaves the skin almost matte. All i know is every time i wear this my makeup looks flawless! During the summer, i get sweaty on my neck and chest areas, so i love applying this there.
Directions: Warm between your fingertips or palms, then gently massage in circular movements onto your face, and apply to all the exposed parts of your body. As Immortal contains no synthetic chemicals a light protective film is expected and may be slightly visible, assuring you of an effective sun barrier.
Ingredients: Suncream- Aqua (water), Zinc oxide and Caprylic capric triglyceride, Polyhydroxystearic acid and Isostrearic acid, Prunus dulcis (sweet almond oil), Prunus ameniaca (apricot oil), Glycerine, Cetearyl glucoside, Coco glucoside, Bisabolol, Cetearyl alcohol, Glyceryl stearate, Butyl hydroxyl toluene, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), Vitis vinifera and Actinidia chinensis (Vinanza grape and kiwi extract), Hyaluronic acid, Rubus idaeus (raspberry seed oil), Punica granatum (pomegranate extract), Gandoderma lucidum (reishi mushroom), Xanthan gum, Ethylhexyl glycerin, Phenoxyehanol, Vitamin E.
Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream - 60ml / £34.99
Nighttime is perfect for the use of heavier, richer creams. Even for us with oilier skin. As i have gotten older (I'm almost 35) i have found a need for richer face creams, especially during the colder months. Over the last year I have been rotating between the Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream, J.One Hana Cream and Rodial Dragon's blood velevet cream at nighttime, and the Avocado Pear Cream is by far the most nourishing. Rich with Manuka Honey and Avocado oil, it helps with collagen production and intense moisture. Vinanza grape acts as a powerful antioxidant, anti-agent and helps to repair free radical damage and premature signs of ageing. The natural scent is a little strong with a slight masculine woody scent, from the inclusion of sandalwood, ylang-ylang and patchouli. However, it soon dissipates once on the skin. I personally find the scent relaxing. Every time i use this cream come morning my skin looks so hydrated and glowy. I'm now 1/3rd way through my 2nd jar.
Directions: Following your favourite serum, Gently massage into the skin at nighttime all over the face, neck and decollete.
Ingredients: Aqua (water), butyrosperum parkii (shea butter), squalane (vegetable), persea gratissima (avocado oil), leptospermum scoparium mel (manuka honey), macadamia ternifolia (macadamia oil), calendula officialis (calendula oil), cocos nucifera (coconut oil), cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, lecithin (vegetable), glucono lactone, (sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate, vitis vinifera (grapeseed) extract, tocopherol, fragrances of sandalwood, ylang ylang and jasmine: benzyl benzoate+, benzyl salicylate+, citral+, dlimonene+, linalool, eugenol, farnesol, geraniol, isoeugneol *Component of essential oil.
Antipodes joined the likes of Oskia, Jane Scrivner, Kypris, Grown Alchemist and Cosrx as one of the few brands that I have enjoyed every product I've tested. I still have more of their products to try out, and have my eye on the Juliet Brightening Gel Cleanser, Hallelujah Lime & Patchouli Cleanser, Ananda Antioxidant-Rich Gentle Toner, Joyous Night Replenish Serum, Worship Superfruit Serum, Divine Face Oil and their new Blessing Anti-Pollution Serum. In fact I want to try everything lol. I love Antipodes' price point for Organic beauty and that each new product they bring out is well thought about and fits in perfectly with the rest of their range. Up to 18 months of research and development is involved in each Antipodes product before releasing. Every product is naturally made, suitable for vegetarians and cruelty free.
